Útdráttur: The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was adopted in 1992, which marked the first milestone in the international response to climate change. Since then the international community has progressed forward, and in 2015 a new agreement to the UNFCCC was adopted – the Paris Agreement. This paper reviews the history of climate negotiations, with a particular focus on the landmark Paris Agreement. The Paris Agreement and corollary activities are then put in context of the impact of the agreement on the development of geothermal power.
