Útdráttur: Geothermal water is used in a few places in Poland, mainly for space heating, balneology, bathing, greenhouse cultivation and fish farming. Two operating geothermal plants show good prospects for the future in low-enthalpy geothermal water utilisation, and also new plants being designed. In this paper geothermal resources within the Polish sedimentary basin, covering 80% of Poland's area, are presented. The analysis of temperature and heat flow distribution in Poland, and also of the Early Jurassic (Liassic) water-bearing layer was performed to show the main reservoir features. The Liassic sandstone reservoir includes geothermal water up to 120°C at depths of 3800 m, and together with Early Cretaceous formations has the highest geothermal potential and the best conditions for geothermal water extraction and utilization in Poland.
